Some tips on abdominal training to get that sexy six pack and slim waist just in time for the beach season! Abdominal training is one of the most misunderstood areas of body part training. People still think, the more crunches they do, the more abdominal work they do, the better their abdominals are going to look. People are constantly asking me what to do to get rid of their muffin top. The abdominals are a focus spot for most people.
Now, the first thing to remember is that you have body fat on top of your abdominals, you are not going to see those muscles no matter how much you work them! Having great looking abs is not just about training but also eating!
You can review the many video and audio podcasts that I have done on Abdominal training. Fit 004, Fit 014 etc
The most important thing to realize is that you can’t spot reduce. You can do all the crunches in the world, but it’s not going to melt off the fat from the abdominal area, especially if you are not watching what you eat. If getting lean abs were as easy as the TV infomercials and various gadgets, then there wouldn’t be a struggle! In actuality, you do have to consider three things: food, cardio and training.
The big secret to great abs!
I am about to tell you the biggest secret and most important part of getting your abdominals in shape in getting them lean! it’ll shock you! Here it is: Use your abdominals in every exercise you do! When you do weight training exercises, especially if they are challenging, your body is going to need to use the abdominals to keep your spine stable. When doing that, your abdominals will be getting a good workout! Just focus on them when you exhale through the main movement.
To get the ab work on all exercises, push your low back into the bench, and suck in your stomach very tightly, belly button to the shine! If you are doing a standing exercise, contract your abdominals as you exhale through a movement. And when you think of those three things you are going to find that you will be able to feel abdominals working, especially with your breathing and then you are going to actually feel your obliques working, the sides of the abdominals too!
Give it a try and you will find that you don’t need as much direct abdominal work to see results. Just use your abs on every exercise!
